Quantum Poker Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 26 ratings

Adding Enumeration to Your Poker Arsenal

Quantum Poker is the first poker strategy book to completely and correctly define how to make the best in-game decisions by employing unprecedented methods. This book will tie together basic and advanced concepts in what is called "The Unified Theory of Poker," and will replace the common poker term "EV" - Expected Value - with a more accurate term, AEV - Average Enumerated Value. While most examples will be given in NLHE, Quantum Poker is uniquely designed to help improve your overall game. From hand range and combinatorical analysis to equity distribution by street, you will learn the necessary tools to be the best poker player that you can possibly be.

I have been a professional poker player for 8 years now, with success both online and live and in both cash games and tournaments. I have worked as a poker coach and instructor on cardrunners.com, pokerzion.com, and now synergypoker.com,and have been published in Cardplayer and Cardplayer Europe. After coaching so many players through their poker careers, I thought it best to culminate all of my thoughts, lesson plans, and articles into a book, and created "Quantum Poker." I define poker for what it truly is - a short-term equity-based investment game - and I set out to teach players how to properly dissect their decision-making process, in order to ensure that they are making the best decisions possible.

Okay, somehow you have stumbled onto this book, and you are wondering if it is "worth it." My quick answer: Absolutely. This book is totally worth the investment. My longer answer: If you are a more casual player, a "feel" player, someone who doesn't want to study poker away from the table, then save your money. If you fit the latter category you will stop reading after chapter 2 or 3, and dismiss this book as either too much work or just too difficult.

This book is intellectually rich, and spends a LOT of time on the subject of your equity against an opponent's range. And oh.. that becomes an issue pre-flop and on each additional street. Ultimately, this book becomes useful when it is read & re-read, the concepts learned and thought about, and then integrated into your game.

I will note that the author refers to various software tools that he has found useful. I was aware of some of these tools, but not all of them. I have down-loaded a couple of the software tools that I was not familiar with and have started using them. They were good recommendations.

I do not write many reviews. Generally I will write a review when a book is either terrible or great. I am pleased to say that this book falls into the category of "great."

Just for the record, I do not personally know the author. I am writing this review simply because I think the author deserves a 5-star review for his work.

Not for the beginner or even the intermediate player. This is a high level thinking book, but after reading it twice it started to sink in.

This book is a must read for those wanting to know the math behind their decisions. Doing the basic math shown earlier in the book for one street analysis is enough to shock you about your play unless you're already a huge winning player. I firmly suggest that you buy this book if you are serious about improving your postflop play. I also suggest that you get Tom Chambers Advanced PLO Theory Vol 1. and Vol 2. and the workbook if you can find it. Quantam poker references the Tom Chambers Advanced PLO Theory Vol 1. for understanding board texture. If you put in the work whether you're a tournament player or a cash game player then you will see improvements in your game, and you'll naturally start to think of different moves that you can make. You'll start to have plans for cards that come on every street. No doubt you'll still have tough spots, and you'll be left with the question of what do to. The first thing I would suggest is do the math. Then once you do the math, take your analysis to the forums for help. He's also coming out with a video series, and I can't wait.

I would suggest universal replayer, holdem manager, or pokertracker if you play online and don't have a way to review hands. He even gives tips on how to organize your hands for review so that they don't get lost in thousands or millions of hands that you're going to play.

Cheers.

You would be better off using CREV than trying to do some of his homespun statistics by hand. There is some good general poker advice in this book.

Very loose and goofy relation to quantum theory, no math or anything. If you expect actual math, don't bother. Lots of typos and grammatical errors, distracting and not a quality product.

This book is great. Really enjoyed the thoughtful inscription that came with the book. This is definitely a must have book for the poker library. The money you make is well worth the cost of the book.

Quantum Poker: This book contains much math which may scare some poker players away. But remember this .... Quantum Poker + effort = more money in your pocket

As poker books go this is a pass. Don't waste your money. The book is all talk and little action. Buy anything by Dan Harrington or Jonathan Little. Skip this nonsense.

Good framework within which to think about the plays you make and why. Suitable for both live and online players.
